Certificate in Construction Site Management – ATU Sligo
Overview
The certificate in Construction Site Management has been developed to provide a progression route for those with a level 6 trade cert or other construction related level 6 into Construction Management. The course is focused on the skills Construction Managers need in the areas of Site Management, Project Feasibility, Planning and Control and Contract Administration and Procurement. The course also through Building Surveying provides the site manager with a practical knowledge of good site practices to mitigate against building defects and also covers good site practices when building and renovating to Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) standard.

Project Feasibility and Appraisal / Site Management / Fundamentals of Measurement and Cost Control
Semester 2
Project Programming and Control / Construction Contract Administration and Procurement / Building Surveying
Programme Delivery:
Delivered fully online part-time, over 1 academic year the course provides the opportunity for career progression in that it contains 30 out of the 60 credits needed to complete the professionally accredited BSc in Construction Management. Graduates from the programme may elect to complete the additional 30 credits of the Digital Construction Technology course and in doing so attain the BSc in Construction Management and in doing so gain membership of the professional body, CIOB.
The Certificate in Construction Site Management is delivered online through distance learning utilising a combination of live lectures, which are also recorded and blended learning techniques. This enables learners to work at their own pace and fit in their coursework around their existing work commitments and lifestyle. Course content and lecture material are uploaded to our Moodle course management system. The course is delivered online and can be taken totally from your own home with no requirement to visit the ATU Sligo’s campus including examinations which can also be undertaken online or on campus.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold a related Level 6 National/Higher Certificate or a Senior Craft Certificate (Merit award) or equivalent and two years relevant work experience. Further information is available through www.atu.ie/recognition-of-prior-learning.
Learner Outcome:
This programme is focused on key areas of expertise for Site Managers including areas project feasibility & planning, time and cost control, site management, contract administration and Procurement. It also has a focus on good site practice and quality control required in meeting requirements of nZEB and passive building standards for retrofits and new builds. The programme is aimed at enabling those industry professionals who currently hold an NFQ level 6 construction related qualification such as a trade or cert acquire the technical knowledge they require to progress in their profession and academically.
Graduates, with a pass grade in this programme may complete the Certificate in Digital Construction Technology L7 after, which on completion they will have successfully completed all modules of and be entitled to the awards of BSc in Construction Management L7.
